Born in North Wales, in 1982, I dream of being an established, contemporary artist and illustrator. I graduated from Bangor University in Wales with a BSc 2:1 Hons in biology in 2003. My pictures are either pencil drawings or watercolour paintings.
My art is figurative, and my pictures have bold definite lines that carry a sense of simplicity. For me they are sensual, and passionate, each with their own narrative, telling a different story or feeling. I do not like to explain my work, how I have drawn or painted a picture is how I want it to be. How each person sees and interprets that picture and its story will be different, and so will be what they feel, and take away from it. This is after all why art is so subjective, and to me so vital.
My work has grown out of my life, its challenges and experiences. I like to comment on human nature, more specifically how a woman can be herself; sensual, strong, and remain feminine, and how we all interact with each other, nature, and its amazing diversity using our instinct and intuition.
My own artistic preferences include the expressionists, the romantic and the art-nouveau. One of my favourite artists is Paul Gauguin, whose art to me typifies the expressionist artists desire to personify their work, so making it passionate and intense. Another, the art-nouveau illustrator, Kay Nielsen, whose illustrations are an escape into another world. Then René Lalique whose romantic ideals are apparent in his attention to detail and the truthfulness to nature in his sketches and jewellery. I also like reading, I love H.E.Bates and how he portrays life so realistically, particularly in his short stories in their “Seven by Five” compilation, and “Fair Stood the Wind for France”, one of the most moving romances I have ever read.

I love dipping into artists’ lives and seeing how they produce their work. It’s so inspiring to me.
Thanks for putting this up!
I like your drawings– yes, there is a softness in them ,
and vulnerability, without abandoning the strength of a woman. <3
I love your artwork! Thanks for sharing it.
Thank you for liking my post! Your art is so original, I really like it. You have a lot of talent and creativity, keep on living your dream and the world will notice
Hi Laura! Thanks so much for visiting my blog and liking my recent post. I’m so glad to be directed to yours which as I will be exploring as I get time to do so attentively.
I can certainly relate to this from you ‘Bio’ above: ‘I like to comment on human nature, more specifically how a woman can be herself; sensual, strong, and remain feminine, and how we all interact with each other, nature, and its amazing diversity using our instinct and intuition.’
And it’s been a long time since I heard someone mention H.E. Bates…one of my favorite authors too. One of my favorite works of his is ‘Feast of July’.
I assume that is one of your paintings in the header…and I love it! Whimsical with those little splashes of delicate color. I love the effect of the faint writing on the rolling hills where she relaxes and contemplates her life…her art…
I’ll be back!
Thank you so much! I like your blog too!
Yes, the header is one of my quick sketches, inspired by D.H.Lawrence’s poem about Autumn.
Cool Art pieces!
Oh, and inspiration from DH Lawrence. My chief read when I was in my teens and early twenties. His poetry is much over-looked. I must get some out and read again!
I’m just really getting back in to him too. I just finished The Lost Girl, I love how he empathises so well with the female point of view. So amazing.
I’ve looked at your work and some of it is fabulous. I’m not crazy about everything but that’s why there’s vanilla and chocolate. One thing you’ll need as an artist is courage. Reading through some of your work I understand your sensitivity. But I found that you have to separate your art from your other passions. To survive. Good luck.
Thank you, I’m glad (honestly, without sarcasm) that you think some of my work is fantastic. I know no-one is ever going to like, or love everything I do, its why art is subjective. Thank you for the luck too, though I have to say one thing I will never be able to do is separate all of my art from my passion. Commissions, yes. The things I do for myself, not so easy, I guess because so much of myself is tied up in my work.
Your artwork is amazing. I find it very inspiring.
Thank you very much. I’m glad I can somehow be a bit of a small inspiration. Starting this blog was an inspiration for me, because it’s always good to know the stuff I do is somehow inspiring for more than myself.
You make beautiful art and I love the captions you set for each one as well. You have an amazing talent! Best of wishes to you and may you be successful in your profession and in all your dreams. Thank you for your visit to my blog. Blessings, Celeste.
your art, your thoughts, your inspiration…..beautiful…
T.
Thank you very much, I like very much how you’ve written that compliment, it’s made me smile, and that can take a lot!
You are a very talented artist, Laura. I’m impressed, to say the least. Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much. I’m glad you’re impressed. I was impressed with the feeling in your writing too.
I love your artwork! And thank you for “liking” my poem What Lies Within (which is what led me to viewing your art)!
Your pictures are beautiful. Wishing you success for 2012. You say you dream of being an artist? Well with talent like you have you are obviously living that dream.
Do you know what, I have honestly never thought about it like that, and I guess you’re right. Because I am doing it because I love it, and in most ways that is enough, because…. well just because really! I hope you know what I mean, though I’m not quite sure I’d do! Just that I guess I’d quite like an illustration agent too, then I wouldn’t have to have a massive ended depressive mood because the head gasket goes on my car (and all I can afford to do is fix it with the miracle solution that is lasting at the moment that is steel seal!), if you know what I mean!
First time some artist been to my blog.
Is that you? I think you yourself is an example of art.

I love the philosophy of “unexplained art”. I write poetry and above all, believe what I have written can be taken many different ways by others, and that’s why I love poetry/art as opposed to the literal. Lovely blog Laura
I couldn’t agree more, as much as I may write something to go with a drawing, or sketch a quick drawing just to go with my words…. essentially I know and am happy that everyone will take something different from both. That’s part of the beauty of art to me. I’m glad you like my blog, thank you very much.
I was directed to your blog by a ‘like’ you’d done on mine, and I love your work, but not only that, your writing is equally as compelling. A great find!
Thank you very much, I’m glad you like my work. The writing, I don’t know, it’s more accidental than anything else, because it is just how I’m at the time, which could be slightly worrying.
You really have developed a style all your own Laura. I am wondering if you are a fan of Georia O’keeffe? (in addition to Paul Gauguin and others). I say this because you mention “stong women” in your blog and she was a very stong woman/artist who portrayed very feminine yet bold subject matter. I appreciate the honesty in your work. It is said that a good/successful writer must be brutally honest and gutteral. I think the same holds true for artists. Well done.
Thank you, I’m glad you like my work, and find it honest. Because to be honest that is what I strife to be all the time, and it is too easy to be thus here online, where there is a slight level of anonymity invovlved. I know Georgia O’Keeffe, to be honest she’s never been one of my favourites, but you are right about her strong sense of feminity and strength, I do love that.
I liked your gallery a lot….well done
Thank you very much, it’s very nice of you to say so.
WoW …. I love your work !!!!
Thank you very much, I’m very glad you do!
Pssstttt…..I’m impressed each time I visit here. You are such a talented artist and extraordinary person. BTW, You are amazing!!!
Is there any chance, at all, by the way that you fancy a second job as an artists illustration agent, if you do can I be your first client?
I’d love to, just to remind you that you are quite impressive.
Your work is beautiful. While I am more musician in terms of art, I have an appreciation for work that moves me. Yours has me both melancholy and joyful at the same time, and I am enjoying both feelings as I look at the work more and more. Thank you for visiting my site as I might never have discovered yours otherwise.
Many thanks for the Like. You are amazingly talented. I wish you all the best in your endeavors.
